Qatar Airways’ first Airbus A321LR is due in December. Its business cabin will have 16 flat-bed suites with doors, one on each side of the aisle. The airline’s Group CEO, Hamad Ali Al-Khater, gave those details to Executive Traveller at a briefing in Sydney on 24 October. He also confirmed that Qsuite Next Gen, the successor to Qsuite, will debut on the A350-1000 in the northern summer of 2027.
Qatar Airways has not published a release on either item that we could read. Its press-release pages refused our request on 26 October. Every detail below is the CEO’s, as Executive Traveller reports it, or comes from One Mile at a Time where noted.
The A321LR cabin
- Ten aircraft. The first is due in December. Al-Khater said, per Executive Traveller, “We hope to have our first trip on January 1”, the start of the airline’s 30th anniversary year.
- 16 business suites, 1-1. The seat is built on the Stelia Opera platform, angled towards the window, with a sliding door at every seat. Every passenger gets direct aisle access. Executive Traveller says Qatar’s larger A321neo fleet will not offer that.
- Not called Qsuite. Al-Khater said the Qsuite name stays with the flagship business class on the A350 and Boeing 777.
- Flights of up to about eight hours, including Europe, per Executive Traveller.
The UAE comparison. Etihad’s A321LR uses the same Stelia Opera seat, per both outlets. On Etihad, only the row-1 first-class version has a door. On Qatar’s aircraft, every business seat will have one.
Qsuite Next Gen: A350 first, mid-2027
The new Qsuite was first announced in mid-2024 for the Boeing 777-9, which is still not delivered. Executive Traveller reports that Qatar will not wait for it. “The first Qsuite Next Gen is coming on the A350-1000, that’s scheduled for the (northern) summer next year,” Al-Khater said. After that, every new A350-1000 will arrive with it. The features Executive Traveller lists include larger beds, double beds, and window suites that open into each other for couples.
What it means here
Nothing changes yet for UAE-based Privilege Club members. None of the sources names a route for either aircraft, a UAE station, or any change to Avios pricing. Qatar’s UAE flights connect through Doha, so these cabins will reach UAE travellers only on the onward sector, and only once Qatar says where the aircraft will fly. We will report the routes when Qatar publishes them.
Our Qatar Privilege Club hub covers how Avios redemptions from the UAE work in the meantime.
